Dr. Rasmussen

Dr. Amy D. Rasmussen (at the time Amy D. Smith, OD) graduated from Illinois College of Optometry in 1991. She has had the experience of owning her own practices in Litchfield, IL and Las Vegas, NV. In 2006, Dr Rasmussen and her husband, Bryan, moved to Texas.  They felt that the Dallas Metroplex was the kind of environment where they would like to raise their daughter, Reagan. Bryan teaches Political Science at Collin College in Frisco.

Dr Rasmussen has been a member of the American Optometric Association since 1987 and is currently a member of the Texas Optometric Association. She has served as the Downstate Optometric Investigator for the Illinois Department of Professional Regulation and as a Clinical Examiner for the National Board of Examiners in Optometry and has been an active civic volunteer and leader.  She is a past president of the Litchfield Chamber of Commerce and has the distinction of being the first female president of the Litchfield Rotary Club. Dr. Rasmussen currently is a member of the Richardson Central Rotary Club. She attends The First United Methodist Church of Frisco where she serves as the Chairman of the Events and Retreats Committee.  She also is an adult troop member and volunteer for her daughter’s Girl Scout Brownie Troop.

Dr. Rasmussen enjoys her career as an optometrist and believes that answering her patient’s questions as well as educating them about their own particular eye conditions is very important. She enjoys working with children and is one of 7,000 optometrists nationwide who are participating in InfantSEE™, a no-cost public health program developed to provide professional eye care for infants. Under this program Dr. Rasmussen and participating optometrists will provide a one-time, comprehensive eye assessment to infants in their first year of life, offering early detection of potential eye and vision problems at no cost regardless of income. “I’m very proud to be involved in InfantSEE™ to ensure healthy vision for our community’s infants,” said Dr. Rasmussen “I have always enjoyed working with children and this program allows me to begin seeing them even younger so I have a better chance to catch any developmental problems earlier.”
